I'm not exactly sure how it happened but it looks as if a webbot somehow guessed or acquired the password I use for uploading files to the site and laced viral code into every file named index.php (which is what makes me think it was a webbot and not an actual hacker).
I'm sorry for the inconvenience. I have since changed the password and uploaded a fresh copy of the website to the server. Hopefully this will be the end of the problem. The webbot may be back, but if you think about it, this is our first web attack in almost four years of service - which is not bad. I'm actually hoping it was a defect in the FTP program (a popular FireFox Plug In) which I have been using and in light of this will now stop using.
Still, if while browsing the site your anti-virus software goes off - write me about it - at jdmcdonnell at yahoo dot com. Unfortunately I can't afford to run and monitor DigitalVerse full time so you the users are my best defense against this sort of thing.
And for those of you who did write me about this attack, thank you immensely
